The Consequences of Sending TRC20 to an ERC20 Address

If you send TRC20 USDT to a centralized exchange that only supports ERC20 deposits, the exchange's system may not detect or credit the incoming TRC20 transaction at all. In this scenario, contact the exchange's customer support immediately with your transaction hash (TXID). Some exchanges are able to manually recover such funds, but this process is not guaranteed and may take weeks.

Recovery from a wrong-network transfer is rare and often impossible. Prevention through careful verification is the only reliable safeguard.

For self-custody wallets, the situation is more complex. If you accidentally send ERC20 tokens to a TRON-format address that you control using the same seed phrase, you may be able to recover the funds by importing the private key or seed phrase into a wallet that supports the TRON network. However, if the address is not one you control, the funds are irrecoverably lost.
